Chinese judoists to vie for bronze medals
(Beijing, November 16) The "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 Beijing Judo Open continued at the University of Science and Technology Beijing Gymnasium today. Wang Chin Fang of Chinese Taipei and Giulia Quintavalle of Italy successfully survived after the repechage round in the women's 52kg, while China's Han Guangyao and Dong Xiang also managed to come back to the scene after the men's 81kg repechage finals.
In the women's 63kg Final of Repechage A, Chinese Taipei's Wang Chin Fang took on China's Shi Yanyan. Soon after the contest began, Wang Chin Fang launched an attack to lead with a "yuko". Following that, she earned three "kokas" in a row, which paved the way for her final victory. Although Shi Yanyan tried to fight back before the end of the match, she failed to get any effective point. As a result, Wang Chin Fang, 2002 Asia Games bronze medalist, gained a berth in one of the two bronze-medal contests. In the Final of Repechage B, China's Zhu Guirong got eliminated by Italian Giulia Quintavalle with an "ippon."
In the men's 81kg Final of Repechage A, Dong Xiang beat teammate Wang Fan with an "ippon", while another teammate Han Guangyao also earned an "ippon" to defeat his Mongolian opponent Ankhbaatar Regdel in the extra.
Judoists who have survived in the repechage round will have a chance to compete for bronze medals with losers from the group finals.
