Volunteer manager Ding Xusheng: Volunteers build up team spirit
(Beijing, November 16) The "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 Beijing Judo Open was held at University of Science and Technology Beijing Gymnasium from November 15 to 16, most volunteers for this open were from University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB), who impressed everybody a lot with their considerate and meticulous services." The students work with great enthusiasm and we are an organization of team spirit." Volunteer manager Ding Xusheng said.
According to Manager Ding, this open had attracted a total of over 1,000 students from USTB to apply to work as volunteers. Through training in general Olympic knowledge, a preliminary selection according to the applicants' specialties and comprehensive quality and tests and interviews in Olympic knowledge and foreign language proficiency, over 300 candidates were finally chosen to make up a volunteer group together with students from 7-8 universities like Tsinghua University and Beijing Foreign Studies University, which was then distributed to nearly 20 departments to serve the "Good Luck Beijing" Beijing Judo Open.
"The students work with great enthusiasm, and we hope more young people will get involved to experience Olympic atmosphere, but quotas are limited." Manager Ding Xusheng, vice director of the Postgraduate Department of USTB, said with regret, "We try to make the volunteers feel it is an efficient organization of team spirit, and hope they will motivate other students to serve the Olympics ."
The days during which the "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 Beijing Judo Open was held were not holidays.Regarding this, USTB released the corresponding policy to ensure that these volunteers could work with their studies not affected. "In view of volunteer reservation, we basically chose sophomores and juniors this time. Training is a continuous process, hopefully, through the preliminary training and practices, this group of volunteers with service experience can continue to serve the Olympics next year." Ding said.
